Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh passed away at AIIMS Delhi on Thursday. He was 92. AIIMS Delhi informed about the development in its bulletin.
He served as India’s Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014.
Condolences poured in from all ends of the spectrum. President Droupadi Murmu, and Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar expressed condolences.
PM Modi has condoled the passing away of former Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh. PM posted on X, “India mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished leaders, Dr. Manmohan Singh Ji. Rising from humble origins, he rose to become a respected economist. He served in various government positions as well, including as Finance Minister, leaving a strong imprint on our economic policy over the years. His interventions in Parliament were also insightful. As our Prime Minister, he made extensive efforts to improve people’s lives”.
Congress leader P Chidambaram, wrote an emotional tribute to Dr Manmohan Singh.
He posted on X about the deeply emotional passing of the former PM and said, “I have not met a person more humble and self-effacing than Dr Singh. He wore his scholarship lightly and never claimed credit for any of his historic achievements.”
He also stated that the world would look back on Dr Manmohan Singh’s 23 years of achievements and finally realise his “true contributions”.
CM of Maharashtra, Mr Devendra Fadnavis has condoled the passing away of Dr. Man Mohan Singh and wrote on X , “With the demise of our Former PM Dr Manmohan Singh ji, we have lost a great scholar, economist & statesman.His contributions in Indian economic reforms, serving our Nation as PM for 10 years, will be remembered forever.My heartfelt tributes to him.Deepest condolences to his family, friends and admirers.ॐ शांति !”
