Pune, December 11, 2024: The Pune Police, under heavy public criticism for delays in solving the murder of Satish Wagh, maternal uncle of BJP MLC Yogesh Tilekar, made significant progress today. Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar announced the arrest of four individuals, including two key suspects, while one accused remains on the run.
On Monday morning, Satish Wagh was abducted during his routine morning walk. He was forced into a car, killed, and his body discarded in the Shindavane Ghat area. The brutal murder shocked the city, with the BJP MLC’s family and the public demanding swift justice. Commissioner Amitesh Kumar revealed that Wagh’s murder was orchestrated by his neighbour for personal reasons, with a sum of Rs 5 lakh allegedly paid to the killers to carry out the crime.
The police examined CCTV footage from 450 cameras in an extensive search for the culprits. A team of 16 officers was deployed, and the case was handed over to the crime branch for expedited handling. Their relentless pursuit led to the identification of a five-member group involved in the murder.
Among the arrested are Navnath Gursale and Pavan Sharma, with Sharma hailing originally from Dhule. Efforts to apprehend the fifth suspect are ongoing. Commissioner Kumar expressed confidence in the police’s progress and assured that the remaining accused would soon be detained.
