Okhamandal: Tata Chemicals Society for Rural Development (TCSRD), the CSR wing of Tata Chemicals Limited, successfully conducted a registration program for ‘Persons with Disability’ (PwD) in the Okhamandal region. In collaboration with the local government under the Tata Chemicals Affirmative Action initiative, this program aimed to enhance accessibility and inclusivity for individuals with disabilities, ensuring equal access to healthcare services, accommodation, and resources.
Alok Chandra, Chief – Health, Safety & Environment at Tata Chemicals Limited, emphasized, “We are proud to announce the successful implementation of TCSRD’s ‘Persons with Disability’ (PwD) registration program in Okhamandal. This initiative, undertaken in collaboration with the local government and as part of our broader Affirmative Action agenda, stands as a testament to our commitment to fostering inclusivity. By addressing critical gaps in accessibility and ensuring equal opportunities for individuals with disabilities, we are not only transforming lives but also creating a more empowered and integrated community. Our gratitude goes to the local authorities and the relentless efforts of our affirmative action program, as we continue to champion the cause of inclusivity, health, and well-being for all.”
As part of Tata Chemicals’ ‘D&I’ (Diversity & Inclusion) initiative observed every February, the PwD program plays a pivotal role. A recent survey conducted by TCSRD in seven villages of Okhamandal identified 110 PwD, with 45 lacking the necessary disability certificate for government-supported welfare schemes. To address this gap, TCSRD collaborated with local authorities to register them and facilitate the issuance of Unique Disability Identification (UDID) cards for these individuals.
The first phase of the initiative, held in partnership with the Health Department of the Gujarat State Government at Khambhalia, saw the participation of 16 individuals. Ten successfully obtained disability certificates, one renewed the certificate, and five received immediate medical treatment at the General Hospital Khambhaliya. The remaining 29 individuals will be covered in the next round, with plans to scale up across the rest of the villages in Okhamandal.
The success of the program can be attributed to strong support from local authorities and the unwavering dedication of the company’s affirmative action program. TCSRD extends gratitude for their vital contribution to the program’s success.
TCSRD remains steadfast in advancing the rights and well-being of persons with disabilities, committed to ongoing collaboration with stakeholders to create a more inclusive and accessible society for all.
