Pune, May 6, 2025: In a significant action, the Deputy Commissioner of Police Himmat Jadhav ordered the suspension of two police officers of Yerawada Police Station for demanding Rs 50,000 from a college student, threatening to file a fake case against him. The suspended police officers have been identified as Dayanand Shivaji Kadam and Ashwin Ishwar Dethe.
On April 24, a college-going student was standing by the side of a car speaking with his female friend on the road to the Commerzone area in Yerwada. Around 7 p.m., patrolling police officers Dethe and Kadam arrived there. They accused the student and his friend of engaging in obscene acts in the car and threatened to file a case against them.
Shockingly, the police officers demanded Rs 50,000 from the student for not filing a complaint against him. Frightened by the incident, the student lodged a complaint of this at Yerawada police station. In this regard, the Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar had ordered a detailed inquiry. After that, Senior Police Inspector Ravindra Shelke investigated the matter and sent the report of the two police officers to senior officers.
In the investigation, both Dethe and Kadam were found guilty. Accordingly, Deputy Commissioner of Police Himmat Jadhav ordered the suspension of two police officers, saying that their behaviour was undisciplined, indecent, and irresponsible and that such behaviour was tarnishing the image of the police force.
