Pune, January 19, 2025: A major fire broke out in a Shivshahi bus travelling on the Pune-Mumbai Expressway near the Talegaon toll plaza today, causing a temporary halt to traffic on the busy highway. The bus, en route from Pune to Mumbai, suddenly erupted in flames on the Mumbai-bound lane, leading to chaos and a traffic standstill.
Emergency services from the IRB fire brigade rushed to the scene and brought the fire under control. Due to the swift response of the fire brigade, the situation was managed promptly. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the incident, although the fire caused significant damage to the vehicle.
Driver’s Presence of Mind Averts Major Tragedy
According to the information, 12 passengers were aboard the Shivshahi bus when the fire broke out. The driver initially noticed the smoke and quickly pulled the bus to the side of the road. Acting swiftly, he evacuated all 12 passengers just moments before the bus was engulfed in flames.
The driver’s timely action not only saved lives but also minimised panic among the passengers. Within moments of the evacuation, the fire intensified. The incident brought Mumbai-bound traffic to a halt for some time, creating congestion on the expressway. However, once the fire was extinguished, normal traffic flow resumed once again.
