Pune, October 9, 2024: A tragic hit-and-run incident occurred today in Pune’s Kothrud area, resulting in the death of a 23-year-old girl. The victim, identified as Aarti Suresh Manawane, was struck and killed by a speeding concrete mixer vehicle while attempting to cross the road.
According to police reports, Aarti was trying to navigate the busy street by climbing over a high divider near the Sutar bus stand when the accident happened. As she crossed from Dahanukar Colony towards the Karve statue, the concrete mixer, travelling at a high speed, collided with her. The force of the impact was so severe that Aarti was thrown onto the roadway, and the vehicle ran over her before stopping the vehicle.
Despite the quick response from the nearby citizens, Aarti lost her life on the spot. Witnesses described the incident as harrowing, highlighting the reckless speed of the truck and the subsequent tragic outcome.
In a shocking turn of events, the truck driver abandoned the vehicle a short distance from the scene and fled from there, leaving Aarti without assistance. Local authorities, upon receiving news of the incident, promptly arrived at the location and launched an investigation to locate the driver.
Police informed that Aarti Manawane was a resident of Erande Hostel in Bhelke Nagar, Kothrud, originally hailing from the Amravati district of Maharashtra. The Alankar Police are actively investigating further in the case.
