Pune, January 30, 2025: Considering the increasing number of fire instances in the commercial establishments and warehouses in the Chikhali and Kudalwadi areas, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) started taking action against illegal encroachments in these areas, including scrap shops, warehouses, companies, hotels, workshops, etc. However, today, the businessmen and traders from these areas protested against the corporation’s action taken against unauthorised constructions.
Today, the businessmen protested the action and blockaded the Dehu-Alandi road to protest the PCMC’s action. After that, police force was called to control the situation.
There are a large number of unauthorised scrap shops, warehouses, and other commercial establishments in the Chikhali and Kudalwadi areas. This caused frequent fire incidents in this area. Due to this, the issue of air and noise pollution has become serious, and the municipal corporation received numerous complaints regarding it from citizens.
The water of the Indrayani River has been polluted as industrial effluent from this area is being directly discharged into the river. Further, toxic gas and other hazardous waste generated from these industries are causing major air pollution and putting citizens’ lives in danger.
Against this backdrop, the Municipal Corporation issued notices to five thousand unauthorised commercial establishments in these areas and asked them to remove illegal encroachments within 15 days. The municipal corporation warned that in case of non-adherence to the notice, strict action would be taken on such establishments. The businessmen took this matter to the Bombay High Court, and the court is now hearing the case on February 14.
After the completion of 15 days as specified by the municipal corporation, officials started taking action today on such establishments. However, to protest the action, businessmen closed the Dehu-Alandi road. Meanwhile, police attempted to convince the businessmen.
