Pune, April 29, 2025: In a significant action, the Shivajinagar police have nabbed a fraudulent gang who were involved in circulating fake currency notes in Pune city. In this regard, the police have arrested five people, including two women, and seized duplicate currency notes worth Rs 28 lakh from them.
The police have arrested five people in this case. The names of those arrested are Manisha Swapnil Thanekar (35), Bharti Tanaji Gawand (34), Sachin Ramchandra Yamgar (35), Naresh Bheemappa Shetty (42), and Prabhu Gugaljeddi (38). The Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone 1, Sandeep Singh Gill, informed that the court has sentenced police custody for all the accused.
As per the information, the bank officer from the Shivajinagar area had earlier complained about fake currency notes in the Shivajinagar Police Station. Upon initial investigation, the police found the person who deposited those fake currency notes in the bank. However, the person informed that he received those notes from the accused, Manisha Thanekar.
After that, the team of Shivajinagar police detained Thanekar and seized one hundred fake notes of two hundred denomination from her. In the following investigation, police detained her other accomplices, including Sachin Yamgar, Bharti Gawand and Naresh Shetty. Shockingly, upon raid on Shetty’s house in the Lohegaon area, the police found fake notes worth Rs 4 lakh printed on one side in his house. Accordingly, the police seized those fake notes along with a printer, ink, note printing paper, and Rs 2 lakh and detained Shetty. Further, the police also arrested Prabhu Gugaljeddi.
The police informed that the investigation is underway to ascertain whether this gang had sold fake notes to anyone else. Further, police are also probing how they obtained the paper, ink and printing technology for fake notes and if there is involvement of any big gang behind it.
