CONTRARY to exit poll predictions, the Congress suffered a massive blow in Haryana as the party lost the assembly elections. The BJP won Haryana hands down, securing a hat-trick.
Till 8 am today, the Congress was in jubilant mood. And even after 8 am, its mood soared. However, after 9 am, things turned sour for the party as the results increasingly went in favour of the party. And by the end of the day, BJP had secured a hatrick winning close to 50 seats while the Congress had to remain satisfied with 34 seats.
Hit hard on the face, the Congress said the result was not acceptable to the party. It alleged that there were serious questions about the integrity of the instruments of the democratic systems.
Alleged that the voting system was manipulated, Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh at a press conference in Delhi said BJP’s Haryana victory means the defeat of transparent democratic process. ”The victory has been snatched from the Congress in Haryana. The Congress has been forced to lose and we are stunned by the results,” he said.
Stating that the Congress has been taken aback completely, Mr Ramesh said the Haryana defeat is completely unexpected and surprising for the party. ”The defeat goes against the sentiment of the people of Haryana. The people wanted change and they it seemed had voted for change. Under the given circumstances, the Congress party is finding it difficult to accept the results. We suspect something amiss. Our candidates have raised serious questions over the results. We are going to take up these issues with the Election Commission,” he said.
Meanwhile, the mood in BJP camp was absolutely ecstatic. Party workers and leaders danced with gay abandon, burst crackers in Haryana, New Delhi and other parts of the country. In Maharashtra too, BJP leaders exulted.
The BJP which secured a hat-trick in Haryana with the latest victory is likely ask
Nayab Singh Saini, the sitting Chief Minister of Haryana, to continue in office. On his party, Nayab Singh Saini said,”The victory belongs to people of Haryana. They have reposed faith in our ability to deliver the goods. We are happy we rose the expectations of the people who voted for us in such big way. We worked relentlessly for the people of Haryana.”
Mr Saini had become the chief minister just 200 days before the elections. He had taken over from Mr Manohar Lala Khattar.
