Pune, May 5, 2025: In a significant action by the Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS), the ATS has successfully nabbed and detained Prashant Kamble, alias Laptop, an extremist, who has been involved in spreading Maoist ideology in urban areas. Kamble, also known as ‘Laptop’ due to his skills in repairing laptops and computers, was detained by the team of ATS from the Charholi area of Pimpri-Chinchwad on Sunday.
Interestingly, Kamble had been absconding for the last 15 years in connection with a serious crime registered against him in Thane. As per the information, Kamble was booked in the Kala Chowki Police Station in Mumbai under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) in 2011. Since then, Kamble has been absconding and evading police arrest.
Police informed that after the case was registered against him in 2011, Kamble went missing, and during these years he was working as a teacher for children in tribal settlements in the Khopoli area of Raigad district. He is also accused of spreading the ideology of the Maoist organisation in these areas. To evade police arrest, Kamble had disguised himself.
Meanwhile, the ATS has been tracking and searching for him. He was declared a fugitive by the court. Further, an arrest warrant was also issued against him by the police.
On Saturday, the Pune team of the ATS received information that Kamble was coming to Charholi in the Pimpri-Chinchwad city. Accordingly, he was arrested by laying a trap in the area. After that, he was produced in a court in Mumbai on Sunday. The court has ordered him into police custody till May 13. Police Inspector Sujata Kanawade of the Pune team of the ATS and the team carried out this action.
