Pune, November 19, 2024: In a shocking incident just hours before voting begins, Chandrakant Tingre, husband of former corporator Rekha Tingre, was attacked in broad daylight in the Vadgaon Sheri assembly constituency. Tingre, who recently joined the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP-Sharad Pawar faction), was supporting Bapusaheb Pathare, the NCP (SP) candidate for Vadgaon Sheri.
The attack, which left Tingre injured, has sent shockwaves through the constituency, further intensifying the already charged political atmosphere.
The attack occurred today around 2:30 p.m. near the Dhanori Toll Plaza in Vishrantwadi. Tingre and his driver, Sachin Gaikwad, had parked their car near the Maharashtra State Electricity Board (MSEB) office. As they were coming out of the car, unknown assailants on a motorbike launched a sudden attack on them. The attackers pelted stones at the car, shattering its windows. In this, Tingre sustained injuries from the glass shards.
Chandrakant Tingre’s recent political move adds layers to this attack. He joined the NCP (Sharad Pawar faction) just a few days ago in the presence of Sharad Pawar, giving support for the party’s Vadgaon Sheri candidate, Bapusaheb Pathare. Tingre had been actively campaigning for Pathare since his induction into the party. The attack has raised suspicions of political motives, though no clear links have been established yet.
Upon hearing of the incident, local police rushed to the scene to secure the area and begin their investigation. The attack has heightened tensions in Vadgaon Sheri, with political workers and citizens expressing concerns over the safety of candidates and their supporters.
