Pune, January 29, 2025: In a shocking case of theft that has left authorities stunned, a supervisor working on the Maha Metro project, along with a truck driver, has been arrested for allegedly stealing iron worth Rs 20 lakh from a metro construction site in Pimpri-Chinchwad. The crime, which took place over several months, was uncovered during a routine inspection.
The theft occurred between September 10, 2024, and January 25, 2025, along the metro route stretching from Bhakti Shakti Bus Depot in Nigdi to Khandoba Mal Chowk in Akurdi. The accused, identified as Harishchandra Sunil Kumar (Nigdi) and truck driver Mohammad Anib Patel (Moshi), were taken into custody by the Nigdi Police. In this regard, the complaint was lodged by General Manager Ravi Rediyar (Talawade).
According to police, the construction of the Pimpri-Nigdi metro line is currently in progress, and the task of supervising materials was given to Rediyar’s Anant Sky Infratech Agency. Harishchandra Kumar, who was employed as a supervisor by this agency, allegedly stole approximately 40 tonnes of iron from the metro site. He is accused of working in collusion with truck driver Patel to transport the stolen materials.
The large-scale theft remained undetected for months until a recent Metro inspection uncovered discrepancies. Upon verification, it was found that a significant quantity of iron was missing from the site. Following this revelation, a case was registered against both accused at Nigdi Police Station.
Nigdi Police are further investigating the case.
