Pune, April 27, 2025: In the Kalyaninagar car accident case, the Supreme Court has recently granted interim bail to the mother of the minor accused, Shivani Agarwal. Shivani was originally arrested by the Pune police on the charges of altering the blood samples of a minor accused and destroying evidence.
On May 18 last year, a minor accused Vedant Agarwal and his friend hit their speeding car on the bike in the Kalyaninagar area, in which two IT engineers were killed on the spot. This incident caused great resentment amongst the public, and accordingly, the Pune police lodged a complaint against the accused and took them into custody. During the interrogation, the police found that the accused and his friend had consumed alcohol in the bar, and they were driving the car under the influence of alcohol.
After that, when the minor accused was brought to the Sassoon Hospital for the medical examination, the mother and the father of the accused colluded with the doctors Ajay Taware and Dr Shrihari Halnor and swapped their son’s blood samples by offering bribes to medical officers. In this regard, the police had arrested Shivani Agarwal on June 1, 2024.
Following her arrest, Shivani Agarwal challenged the validity of her arrest in the Supreme Court through a special petition. On this, the Supreme Court has granted her interim bail. The verdict on her petition has been reserved. Meanwhile, she applied to the Shivajinagar District Sessions Court to determine the terms and conditions of the interim bail, and advocates Angad Singh Gill and Dhvani Shah appeared in the court on her behalf.
On this, the Additional Sessions Judge K. N. Shinde granted her bail on a surety bond of Rs. 1 lakh. Additionally, she has been asked to be present at the Yerawada police station every Wednesday from 11 am to 1 pm, and she has been instructed to keep her mobile set on. The court has also imposed conditions on her, such as not to go abroad without the permission of the court, not to tamper with testimony and evidence, and giving the addresses and mobile numbers of her close relatives to the court.
