Pune, May 26, 2025: A late-night firing incident in Pune’s Mangalwar Peth area sent shockwaves through the locality on Saturday after a group of unknown individuals opened fire on a youth who was casually speaking with his friends. Fortunately, the bullets missed their mark, and no injuries were reported. However, the gunfire created panic among residents.
Faraskhana police have arrested two individuals in connection with the firing. The accused have been identified as Rohit Mane (30) and Qasim Asif Ansari (23), both residents of Lohiya Nagar. In this case, a formal complaint was lodged at the Faraskhana police station by Kiran Kedari (37), a resident of Gokhale Nagar.
According to police reports, the incident occurred at around 1:30 am near Bhimnagar in Mangalwar Peth. Kedari was speaking with his friends Shyam Gaikwad, Ashfaq Sheikh, and Santosh Kamble when Mane and Ansari rode past them on a two-wheeler. Suspicious of their presence at that hour, Kedari and his friends reportedly questioned the duo, which led to a heated exchange between them.
Amid the argument, Ansari allegedly pulled out a pistol tucked into his waistband and fired directly at Kedari. Fortunately, the bullet did not strike him. In a dramatic turn, Ansari then fired two more rounds into the air, apparently to intimidate the group and spread fear in the area.
Kedari and his friends, startled by the sudden violence, backed off as the accused fled the scene. However, after some time, Rohit Mane returned to the spot a short while later, claiming he wanted to “resolve the issue”. Seizing the opportunity, the four men overpowered Mane and handed him over to the police.
Upon receiving the complaint, Faraskhana police immediately launched a search operation and apprehended Ansari as well. Initial investigations have revealed that both accused are repeat offenders with criminal backgrounds. Police are probing how they acquired the firearm and the motive behind carrying it on the night of the incident. Police Sub-Inspector Arvind Shinde is leading the investigation, and further enquiries are underway.
