Pune, May 26, 2025: In a spate of audacious house break-ins across different parts of the city, burglars made away with cash and valuables worth Rs 2.44 lakh, leaving residents stunned and police scrambling for clues.
In the first incident reported from the Perne Phata area on Nagar Road, burglars targeted a locked house and looted Rs 92,000 in cash. According to the complaint filed by Shriram Nimba Khairnar (39), a resident of Laxminagar, Perne Phata, the theft occurred while his family was away in their native village on May 14. Taking advantage of their absence, unidentified persons broke the lock of the main door and accessed a cupboard inside, escaping with the cash. The burglary came to light only after the family returned home. Lonikand Police Station has registered a case, and Assistant Police Inspector Ravindra Godse is leading the investigation.
In a separate incident in Dongargaon, Haveli taluka, thieves targeted the residence of Anil Mahadu Gaikwad (35) and decamped with valuables worth Rs 82,000, including jewellery and cash. Gaikwad, in his complaint lodged at Lonikand Police Station, stated that the burglars not only broke into the house but also managed to steal a two-wheeler parked outside. The brazen theft has left the people anxious. API Vanjari has been assigned to probe the case.
Meanwhile, in the Hadapsar area, another theft was reported where burglars made away with Rs 70,000 in cash after breaking into a home in broad daylight. The complainant, Srinivas Durgadas Nande (35), informed police that his family had stepped out for work on Saturday morning. During this brief time, thieves broke the house’s lock and ransacked the cupboard. Hadapsar Police have registered an offence, and API Jambhale is conducting the investigation into the case.
