Pune, January 17, 2025: A container truck driver caused chaos on the Chakan-Shikrapur road today, crashing into eight vehicles, including a police car, and leaving a police officer and an 11-year-old girl injured. The dramatic incident unfolded around 12:30 p.m. near Talegaon Chowk, resulting in a high-speed police chase and the driver’s arrest at Wajewadi. Eyewitnesses alleged that the driver was under the influence of alcohol, prompting police to conduct a medical examination.
The series of collisions began when the container, travelling from Chakan to Shikrapur, hit a two-wheeler carrying two women and a young girl at Talegaon Chowk. The impact threw the riders onto the road, with the truck’s wheel severely injuring the girl’s leg. Surprisingly, instead of stopping there, the driver sped away.
The container driver continued its rampage, smashing into a car further down the road and causing significant damage. Rather than halting, the driver accelerated, prompting Chakan police to initiate a pursuit after receiving reports of the vehicle colliding with multiple other vehicles along its path.
The reckless drive came to an end at Wajewadi, within the jurisdiction of the Shikrapur police station, after police blocked the road with a dumper. During the chase, the container struck seven to eight vehicles, including a police car, injuring a warden.
Enraged by the incident, citizens intercepted the driver at Wajewadi and beat him up before he was handed over to the authorities. The driver, injured by the mob, was taken into custody by the police. “The truck first hit a car and then hit several other vehicles during the chase. It has been confirmed that seven vehicles were hit. We are investigating whether there was any additional damage,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police Shivaji Pawar.
Police have sent the driver for a medical examination to verify eyewitness claims of him being intoxicated. Meanwhile, the injured victims, including the minor girl, are receiving medical attention.
