Pune: Hosts Hockey Maharashtra gave the large turnout a fitting reason to celebrate posting a dominating 9-0 win over Kerala Hockey in the 14th Hockey India Senior Women National Championship 2024 at the Major Dhyanchand Hockey Stadium Nehrunagar, Pimpri in a late Wednesday fixture.
Playing under lights, Hockey Maharashtra sparkled netting three of their goals in the first half off penalty corners to gain full points from the Pool-B encounter. Priyanka Wankhede (4th) struck early which was doubled by a penalty corner conversion by Akshata Dhekale (8th). It took Rutuja Pisal (18th) ten minutes to increase the tally from a penalty-corner again. Durga Shinde (20th) and a penalty corner conversion by Bhavana Khade (26th) completed the first half tally.
Changing ends, Hockey Maharashtra added four more goals. Rutuja Pisal (44th, 53rd) contributed two while Vaishnavi (46th) and Yogita Bora (51st) added a goal each to complete a comfortable win.
