Pune, January 11, 2025: Yesterday, on January 10, the Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, finally appeared in the special court of First Class Judicial Magistrate Amol Shinde from Delhi via videoconferencing for the hearing in the case of making defamatory statements about Swatantryaveer Savarkar. Yesterday, the court granted bail to Rahul Gandhi on a surety bond of Rs 25,000.
Earlier, the court had extended the deadline for Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to appear for the hearing in the court till Friday (10th). Since Rahul Gandhi is the leader of the opposition, he has high security if he has to appear in the Pune court. It is likely to obstruct the proceedings of the court. Due to this, his lawyer, Advocate Milind Pawar, had applied to the court in the morning to present Rahul Gandhi through video conferencing.
Adv. Sangram Kolhatkar, the lawyer of Satyaki Savarkar, grandson of Swatantryaveer Savarkar, opposed it. However, after discussing the application for two to three hours, the court approved the application, and a link to the court was sent to Rahul Gandhi through mail. Gandhi appeared before the special court through videoconferencing at 4:30 p.m.
During the court hearing, both sides presented their argument. However, since this is a bailable offence, Adv. Pawar applied to the court for Mr. Gandhi’s bail. Former MLA Mohan Joshi remained his surety. Finally, the court granted bail to Rahul Gandhi, after which he thanked the court.
While speaking on it, Advocate Milind Pawar, the lawyer of Rahul Gandhi, said, “The court has given the next date of hearing of February 18. But now, Rahul Gandhi does not need to be present in the case. From now on, our lawyers will be present in the court.”
