Pune, January 10, 2025: Two days ago, the Deputy Chief Minister of the state, Ajit Pawar, expressed concern over the lack of effectiveness of Pune police in curbing the soaring crime rates in the city. While the statement of Pawar is fresh, a shocking incident has taken place in Pune, where the notorious gangster Praful Kasbe and his associates took out a fear-inducing procession and created terror in the city after coming out of the jail.
In this regard, the Yerawada police have taken out a public shaming parade of these accused and lodged a case against 35 to 40 people. Meanwhile, the prime accused, Praful Kasbe, is at large, and police are searching for him.
As per the information, Kasbe was incarcerated in Yerawada jail under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) and was released on Tuesday, January 7. After getting bail, Kasbe and his associates took out a procession of two-wheeler rides through the Laxminagar area of Yerawada. Further, they also created terror in the area by making their aggressive video clips viral.
After getting information about the incident, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Nikhil Pingle, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone IV) Himmat Jadhav, and other police officers visited the spot and detained the other accused. Though the main culprit, Kasbe, is currently absconding, the police have arrested other accused, and the case is registered against them at the Yerawada police station under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 189 (2), 190, 223, 281, and section 7 of the criminal law amendment 1951 subsections 37 (1) (3) and 135.
Himmat Jadhav, DCP (Zone IV), said that a notice was issued to Kasbe, after which he went missing. “We have lodged an FIR against Kasbe and other accused of spreading terror in the society through the public rally, and further probe is underway,” said Jadhav.
