Pune, April 24, 2025: In a major case of financial fraud, the Koregaon police have arrested Hanmant Namdev Aajbe, a resident of Taluka Ashti in Beed district, for allegedly duping the Jarandeshwar Sugar Mills in Chimangaon (Taluka Koregaon) of Rs 15.66 lakh. Aajbe has been remanded to two days of police custody by a local court regarding the case.
According to the primary information, Aajbe was among seven individuals who had entered into a formal agreement with the sugar mill to supply vehicles and labour for the transportation and harvesting of sugarcane. Initially, the group managed to earn the trust of the factory management by posing as reliable contractors.
However, investigations have now revealed that instead of honouring the agreement, the accused colluded with accomplices and failed to provide the contracted vehicles to the factory. Further, they allegedly furnished fake vehicle registration numbers to the mill while diverting the actual vehicles to other factories to generate illicit profits.
The fraud deepens with the discovery that Aajbe not only duped the factory of Rs 6.99 lakh through vehicle-related misrepresentation but also swindled an additional Rs 8.67 lakh by charging the mill for 42 groups of labourers. In reality, he had arranged for only 24 groups. This incident took place over the years from 2020 to 2024.
The scam came to light after Sandeep Sawant, the office superintendent of Jarandeshwar Sugar Mills, filed a formal complaint at the Koregaon police station. Acting in this case, Police Inspector Ghanshyam Ballal registered a case and arrested Aajbe, who is now being interrogated for further leads.
