Pune, May 20, 2025: Over a year after the sensational daylight murder of notorious gangster Sharad Mohol sent shockwaves across Pune, the city police have intensified their crackdown on those connected to the crime. In a significant development, the police have arrested Omkar More, who was allegedly conspiring to avenge Mohol’s killing. The arrest adds a fresh twist to the case.
As per the information, a pistol was recovered from More, and police sources say he was closely linked to the retaliatory plans brewing within the Mohol gang. Earlier, two others — Sharad Malpote and Sandesh Kadu — had been taken into custody in the same case.
Sharad Mohol, who once held considerable sway over Pune’s crime scene, was gunned down in broad daylight on January 5, 2024, in the Sutardara area of Kothrud. His murder did not just jolt the city but also unsettled rival gangs and triggered a chain reaction of violence and vengeance. The Pune Police had quickly swung into action, arresting as many as 13 individuals in connection with the killing — a list that included two lawyers.
The key accused in the high-profile murder include Sahil alias Munna Polekar, Dhananjay Matkar, Satish Shendge, Nitin Khaire, Namdev Kangude, Amit alias Amar Kangude, Chandrakant Shelke, Vinayak Gaonkar, Vitthal Gandle, Advocate Ravindra Pawar, Advocate Sanjay Udan, and Aditya Gole.
In this case, the Pune Police had earlier invoked the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) against 16 accused. Among those booked under MCOCA were key names like Ganesh Marne and Vitthal Shelar. Marne, believed to be the mastermind behind Mohol’s assassination, had managed to elude authorities for months. In an interstate manhunt that spanned Karnataka, Kerala, and Odisha, the police tracked Marne’s movements across these. The chase ended near the Moshi toll plaza close to Nashik, where he was finally arrested by the police.
With the arrest of Omkar More, investigators believe they are inching closer to the core of the conspiracy. The probe has now gained renewed momentum, and police sources suggest that more arrests could follow as new leads emerge in this case.
