Pune, April 23, 2025: Today in the early morning hours, a devastating fire erupted in the Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar residential area of Chandan Nagar, in which over 50 huts were gutted by the fire. This sudden fire caused a wave of panic across the neighbourhood. Primary information in the case suggests that around 10 domestic gas cylinders exploded in this incident, which further intensified the flames.
The blaze reportedly began around 5 a.m. on Nagar Road, catching residents off guard as they slept. Upon learning about the incident, the citizens of the area rushed out of their homes in a desperate attempt to save their lives. Fortunately, no casualties were reported in the incident, though scores of families lost all their belongings in the fire.
Reacting swiftly, the fire department deployed a massive response team comprising 15 fire tenders and tankers. Accordingly, a team of 80 personnel worked relentlessly to control the fire under the guidance of Devendra Potphode, which raged for several hours. Despite the firefighters’ best efforts, most huts and the belongings within were gutted by the fire.
“The fire was finally brought under control after an intense and coordinated effort,” said Potphode. “Thankfully, no lives were lost. Our team managed to remove more than 100 gas cylinders from the huts, which helped prevent a potentially catastrophic explosion.”
While the exact cause of the fire remains unknown, further investigation is underway in this case.
