Pune, May 20, 2025: A shocking gunfire incident late Sunday night has sent shockwaves through Pune’s political circle after unidentified assailants on a two-wheeler opened fire on a vehicle belonging to Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) office bearer Nilesh Ghare. The targeted attack occurred near his office in the Warje area, triggering a high-level police probe and heightening political tensions in the city.
According to information shared by Deputy Commissioner of Police Sambhaji Kadam, the incident took place between 11 and 11:30 pm on Sunday night. Preliminary investigations suggest that the attackers fired at the stationary four-wheeler before fleeing the scene. One suspect has reportedly been detained, and police teams are scanning CCTV footage from the vicinity to identify and trace the culprits.
In a chilling account, Nilesh Ghare revealed that he had received a threatening phone call earlier in the day. “The caller warned me—‘You are interfering in my matter. I will see you; I will kill you.’ When I tried to get clarity, he abruptly ended the call,” Ghare said. Alarmed by the threat, he met the Joint Commissioner of Police and narrated the details of the conversation. He was advised to lodge a formal complaint with another department. “I then returned to my office and resumed work,” Ghare added.
Later that night, the violence unfolded. As per Ghare’s account, unknown individuals on a motorcycle rode up to the parked vehicle and fired shots. The sound of the gunfire and shattering glass drew his staff members to the scene. “The window was shattered, and everyone rushed out in panic. The intent was clearly to intimidate,” Ghare said.
Police teams are currently combing the area for clues, and security around local political offices has been heightened.
